Richard Keegan is a specialist in the areas of Lean/World Class Business and Benchmarking with Enterprise Ireland. His concept of developing a three tier approach to company development has been adopted as a national approach to support the development of competitiveness in Irish industry. To date over 970 company projcets have been supported for Enterprise Ireland clients. The Lean Programme supports indigeneous clients from many sectors on their improvement journeys, based on their current stage of capability and ambition. His approach has been adopted by the Industrial Development Authority, for roll-out to Multi-National client companies of theirs. An adapted version is currently being rolled out across the country for Micro companies. The effectiveness and efficiency of the three tiered approach has been independently verified by the Irish Government’s Department of Enterprise Jobs and Innovation and has been written into the National Development Strategy for the past number of years. The scaling and delivery of the Lean Business Offer was made possible by:

    1. Creating a directory of Lean Service Providers, in effect private sector consultancies that could support companies on their improvement journeys. The directory provides both sectoral and geographic coverage,
    2. Creating a shared understanding of the fundamentals of Lean in Ireland, subsequently published as a SWIFT Guide by the National Standards Authority of Ireland,
    3. Managing the programme, and the directory, to stay current with market developments.

He is asked to advise major companies in Europe. Through this work he has access to developing best practice thinking and provides insights and support to some significant companies, especially in Germany, Austria and Italy.

He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, in the Business School at Trinity College Dublin, lecturing to MBA classes on Operations Strategy and at undergraduate level on Operations Management to second year Business students and final year Engineering students. He is a visiting associate professor at the University of Northern Iowa. He is a part time faculty member with the Timoney Institute, a values driven executive education organisation in Ireland.
