Jim Fitzsimons is a Technical Consultant with Helix Innovation Partnerships who specialize in technical assessments for funding bodies, HMRC and the Revenue Commissioners. He is a Past President of the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisors, the representative body for the consultancy sector in Ireland. Jim set up and is also Lead Partner in Riverwest Management, a company focussed entirely on funding for Innovation and growth. He has also worked as a Technical Consultant with Helix Innovations Partnerships and Intertrade Ireland’s Innovation programmes for 14 years. In that time has been put together hundreds of Fusion projects across the island between SME’s and Third Level Colleges. Mostly he has worked partnering companies in Ireland with colleges in Northern Ireland. Prior to that he worked in written and broadcast journalism, and held research, technical, marketing, sales and general management roles in food and agribusiness firms in Ireland, UK and all over the World. For over 2 decades, he has worked in enabling SME’s to do funded research in universities and colleges across the Island and mentors many companies with the Fusion, Challenge, Elevate and Acumen Programs of InterTradeIreland. He develops funding proposals for firms in the start-up, bio-tech, food, regional development and energy sectors in the UK and Ireland. He has degrees in Agriculture and Animal Science from UCD and is a Certified Management Consultant. He has helped Irish and overseas companies to access funds for research and expansion from many funding bodies in Ireland an overseas.

Using the R&D Tax Credit Scheme to reduce the cost of Research and Innovation.
Jim has helped Irish and overseas companies to access funds for research and expansion from Enterprise Ireland, IDA, InvestNI, Innovate UK and Horizon 2020. He also acts as an application assessor for a number of these bodies. In this presentation he will outline the possibilities of using the R&D Tax Credit Scheme of Revenue to reduce the cost of Innovation. He will give a brief practical tour of the processes involved in doing this, the likelihood of success in each and share his ideas on how best to proceed whether you are a start-up, SME or large company.
